What is a Strikethrough Text?
Strikethrough text is presented by a slash through a symbol, often used to signify any revisions or a changes to your writing. “L̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶.” ß Like this.
Strikethrough text can be mistaken for multiple methods of operation. HTML uses their <strike> or <s> input to generate specific struck-through characters to text. There is also the CSS attribute text-decoration: line-through.
Although these may seem similar, strikethrough doesn’t apply to the aforementioned arrangements. Instead, it is created through Unicode characters by “combining long stroke overlay”. Using different results of “combining stroke overlay” can generate specific struck-through characters.
The result is not an image, HTML or CSS element, but plain text which is able to paste anywhere; Messages, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp and multiple platforms like on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android devices.
There is also a conjunction of strikethrough texts for differing situations. You may create a pair of intersecting parallel lines, known as cross-hatched strikes. Waved or dotted texts can be administered with certain Unicode characters, known as wave lines. “̴T̴h̴i̴s̴ ̴o̴n̴e̴ ̴h̴e̴r̴e̴”̴
How to Generate Specific Strikethrough Characters.
Lucky for you, our Fancy Text generator does all the hard for you. It’s as simple as copy & paste onto any media and you’re good to go.
Just type in your word or phrase into the text box. From this point, select one of the given options of strikethrough. A button should be displayed, which can be used to copy & paste your generated strikethrough.
You can press Ctrl + C on your keyboard or hold your finger on your mobile device to copy and paste it to the position you want with Ctrl + V.
Unfortunately, strikethrough does not have a shortcut key on word, so you might want to create your own. You can develop your own shortcut key for strikethrough by customizing Word, through your Font dialog box.
Otherwise, it should be labelled on Word as “abc”
Of course, there is a more complex guide, but there’s no need to get acquainted. It sure doesn’t take a rocket scientist to get accustomed to these codes. Rather than commit them to memory, just revisit this guide at any time.
Why You Should Be Using Strikethrough Text.
Some people may not understand the many practical uses of strikethrough texts, don’t fall under that category. Unicode in general, is a convenient way for writers to more vividly express their content.
Think about this, we’ll give you two sentences and you can decide for yourself which looks more interesting to read.
- “Today is a good day to go swimming. Actually, it’s an amazing day to go out swimming.:
- “Today is a good day an amazing day to go out swimming.”
What we have here—the exact same sentence written in two different formats. Which is more visually pleasing? You may be leaning more towards the latter. And this judgement isn’t wrongfully placed. Let’s explain why:
- The first writing is longer and uses two sentences to write. Although, the grammar is good and it looks okay, the extra sentence is completely unnecessary.
- The second sentence uses the strikethrough in order to show a clear adjustment in the writing.
- The second sentence is also shorter, which can be more convenient.
- The latter sentence is also observed more often because of its quirk. Not often is a strikethrough used, so finding one will most certainly grab your readers’ attention.
How about you try to generate specific struck through characters now and get a feel for how it works. It’s as simple as a copy & paste. Afterwards, you merely need to select from the given options of strikethrough.
