How to Change Your Font on TikTok

TikTok gives you a handful of fonts in the video editor and exactly none in your bio. If you have wondered how certain profiles have cursive bios and stylised names, the answer is the same technique that works on Instagram — pasted Unicode characters. Here is how to do it on every part of TikTok.

Changing Your TikTok Bio Font

1. Open our fancy text generator in your mobile browser and type your bio.

3. In TikTok, go to Profile → Edit profile → Bio.
4. Long-press the field and tap Paste, then Save.

TikTok bios are limited to 80 characters, which is tight — and several styled fonts consume two characters per letter. Small caps and bold are the most efficient decorative options if you are close to the limit.

Your Display Name vs Your Username

TikTok has two identity fields and they behave differently. Your name — the larger text on your profile — accepts most Unicode styles. Your username, the one starting with @, is restricted to letters, numbers, underscores and periods, with no Unicode allowed.

That split is actually convenient: a styled display name gives you visual identity while a plain @handle stays easy to type, share and search for.

Fonts in Captions and Comments

Paste styled text into the caption box exactly as you would into the bio. Because TikTok captions are short and often hidden behind the interface, a styled opening word can help the caption register in the second before someone swipes.

In comments, styled text stands out sharply — comment sections move fast and a distinctive style catches the eye. Creators sometimes use a consistent style for their own replies so followers can spot them in a thread.

As on Instagram, hashtags must stay plain. A styled hashtag is not clickable and does not enter that hashtag's feed, which costs you the main discovery mechanism TikTok offers.

On-Screen Text in Videos

This is where TikTok differs from Instagram in a useful way. TikTok's text tool includes several genuine fonts — Classic, Typewriter, Handwriting, Neon, Serif and others — plus colours, backgrounds, outlines and text-to-speech. Those are real fonts rendered into the video, and for on-screen text they are almost always the better choice.

Unicode still helps in two situations: when you want a style TikTok does not offer, such as gothic or bubble letters, and when you want the text to be copyable by viewers, which rendered video text never is.

One caveat specific to video: TikTok's text-to-speech feature reads the text layer aloud, and it handles Unicode badly — it may read character names or skip the text entirely. If you are using TTS, type in plain characters.

Common Issues

Bio won't save. Usually a character limit problem rather than a font problem — styled text counts double. Shorten it or choose a more efficient style.

Text shows as boxes. The viewer's device lacks those glyphs. Bold, cursive and small caps have the widest support.

Hashtag not working. It is styled. Hashtags must be plain characters to function.

Search cannot find my account. TikTok search matches plain characters. If your display name is fully styled, people searching your name will not find you — keep a plain version somewhere in the profile.

A Note on Reach

TikTok's algorithm reads your caption text for topic signals. Heavily styled captions are harder for it to parse, which can weaken how well your video is matched to interested viewers. The safe approach is the same one that works everywhere: keep the substance plain and searchable, and use one styled element as decoration.
